Welcome to IntoBirds – Where Art Meets Conservation

At IntoBirds, we believe birds aren’t just beautiful—they’re essential. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to protect them through storytelling, handmade art, and community-powered conservation.

We’re more than just a website and online shop. We’re a movement of bird lovers, nature nerds, and creative spirits who believe in coexisting with the wild world around us. From celebrating the wonder of owls and kestrels to helping rehabilitate injured raptors, everything we do is rooted in one simple idea: Let’s keep birds where they belong: wild and free.

What We Stand For

Our passion for preserving birds and wildlife runs deep. That’s why we shine a light on the people doing the hard work—like wildlife rehabilitators—who care for injured birds and prepare them for a second chance in the wild.

We proudly partner with Christine’s Critters, a nonprofit in Weston, Connecticut, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing birds of prey. Every year, they care for more than 300 injured raptors—and we help make that possible.

Through our Etsy shop, we sponsor five incredible birds of prey, covering their food and medical care.

into birds about us
Meet our Feathered Friends (from left to right)

Douglas – A Northern Saw-whet Owl who survived a car collision.
Magma – A red-phase Eastern Screech Owl with a backward wing.
Salsa – A fierce American Kestrel once kept illegally as a pet.
Equinox – A stunning Peregrine Falcon and survivor of a car strike.
Pisces – A resilient female Osprey recovering from a vehicle impact.

Each bird has a story. Each story fuels our mission.

Art With a Wild Heart

Our online shop is filled with nature-inspired goods that celebrate the spirit of the wild. Think vintage-style bird art, journals, wooden cards, and home decor—all handcrafted with love and purpose. Every piece you buy helps us support wildlife organizations that do real, boots-on-the-ground work.

Why It Matters

Now more than ever, birds need our voice. From habitat loss to environmental threats, their survival depends on awareness, education, and action. That’s why we use our platform to amplify stories of hope, resilience, and recovery—on our blog, social media, and beyond.

Renée Hewitt

Cofounder
Storyteller-in-Chief
Wildlife & Words Advocate
Cat Mom Extraordinaire

Renée fell in love with nature and animals at the age of five and never looked back. Her passion for “saving the world” began with rescuing bugs, frogs, and snakes from lawnmowers and blossomed into a lifelong mission of advocacy, storytelling, and snapping photos of anything with feathers or fur.

When she’s not birdwatching, writing about birds, or reading the latest David Sedaris book, you’ll find her crafting tongue-in-cheek takes on life’s quirks—infusing humor, heart, and a sharp eye for the absurd.

By day, Renée runs Hewitt PR and Content Marketing, blending strategy with soul as a PR consultant, writer, editor, and content strategist. Her niche? Health and wellness. She’s the editor-in-chief of Daily Nurse and Minority Nurse and leads communications for a healthy, freeze-dried fruit snack brand, helping families snack healthier.

Renée loves sharing stories that inspire healthier, more connected lives—and amplifying the voices of people who make that possible for others.

She lives in New York’s scenic Hudson Valley with her two majestic Maine Coons, Sonja and Arya, who supervise her writing (mostly by lying on the keyboard).

Animal Activist

Dan is a lifelong animal activist whose creative journey is deeply rooted in a profound love for animals and the natural world. From a young age, Dan was in awe of the creatures that shared his world—growing up surrounded by dogs, cats, and even turtles. Childhood weekends were often spent wandering zoos, captivated for hours by the wild beauty of animals from across the globe.

That early fascination only grew stronger. Eventually, Dan became the proud companion of two spirited green iguanas—Frisco and Maliaki—lovingly referred to as his “dinosaurs.” Today, he also cares for Arya, a Maine Coon cat with a strong personality and a few social quirks, who has become an important and beloved part of his life.

Dan’s artistic vision found its home behind the lens, where his work as a photographer and videographer earned recognition for its emotional depth and storytelling. After a successful creative career, Dan now lives in New York’s Hudson Valley—a place where nature, community, and artistry converge.

A committed vegan and devoted animal advocate, Dan proudly supports the work of the Catskill Animal Sanctuary in Saugerties, NY. He’s also a member of the Center for Photography at Woodstock, where he continues to explore and refine his craft.

When he’s not hiking or getting lost in the woods, Dan can usually be found in his woodshop—sculpting, carving, or building hand-crafted wooden boxes. Whether through his photography, design, or woodworking, Dan’s work is a celebration of compassion, creativity, and the quiet power of nature.

Sonja Coon

Chief Nap Officer (CNO)
Director of Mischief & Meal Planning
Feline Thought Leader

Lavishly pampered and unapologetically fabulous, Sonja is a blue-smoke gray Maine Coon with a flair for the dramatic. When she’s not perfecting her competitive yawning skills or hosting box “pawties” with her online fanbase, you’ll find her shredding the living room rug on her skateboard or testing new material for her budding cat stand-up career.

Saturdays? She calls them Caturdays.

By day, she’s a dedicated bird watcher. By night, a feline icon.
