Males are midnight blue above and white below with black on the throat, face, and sides.
Females are plain grayish olive overall, although some have blue tints on the wings and tail.
Both sexes have a characteristic small white square on their wing called a “pocket handkerchief.”
If you walk quietly on trails inside the forest you may observe this bird closely.
The Black-throated Blue Warbler moves about actively in its search for insects, but often forages in the same area for minutes at a time, rather than moving quickly through the forest like other warblers.
