Giving Back to a Place That Brings Inspiration to So Many

Mohonk Preserve is a Place Where We Take Refuge to See Birds and Nature

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Mohonk Preserve and the stunning Shawangunk Ridge are the backdrops for many of our hiking adventures, so we’re thrilled to give back and donate three intoBirds’ Birch Dream Journals to support Mohonk Preserve’s Virtual 24th Annual Benefit on April 17, 2021.

This beautiful preserve is located in New Paltz, New York, off Exit 18 on the NYS Thruway, and throughout the pandemic, we find endless inspiration in nature hiking at Mohonk Preserve and keep going back throughout the seasons.

Nature Provides Refuge During the Pandemic

The preserve quickly became one of our favorite places to hike to see birds and nature, filling our Dream Journals with pages of inspiration.

The picturesque Mohonk Preserve is part of the Northern Shawangunk Ridge, and the mountain range runs between the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains.

The Gunks are a spectacular rock formation seen from many viewpoints in Ulster County, New York, where we hike and enjoy birdwatching.

Dream Journals Reflect Our Inspiration from Nature

There are so many unique places on the Mohonk Preserve where seeing nature inspires us.

“If I were to name the three most precious resources of life, I should say books, friends, and nature. And the greatest of these, at least the most constant and always at hand, is nature.” – John Burroughs

These places include a collection of dead trees where Pileated Woodpeckers drum, the ridgeline where the Red-tailed Hawks soar, or the dense trees where the Red-shouldered Hawks call to us from high above, almost on cue.

This year’s auction items reflect the birds we enjoy seeing on this remarkable landscape that bring us such joy and inspiration: Red-tailed Hawk, Eastern Screech Owl, and White-throated Sparrow.

The Red-tailed Hawk provides us with the wonderment of flight and the ability to soar.

Eastern Screech owls require the inquisitiveness to find this incredible camouflaged beauty.

Hearing the White-throated Sparrow’s beautiful song of clear, pure whistles is sheer delight.
