Some creatures are born to defy the odds, and Magma is one of them. Meet Magma, a stunning red-phase Eastern Screech Owl with a fiery spirit and a unique story.
Unlike most owls, Magma wasn’t built for the skies—but not because he was born that way. Magma’s wing likely broke in the nest as a nestling, and before it could heal properly, it fused together backward. When the time came for him to leave the nest and take his first flight, disaster struck—he crashed to the ground.

But fate had other plans. A kind little boy found him and made sure he got the help he needed. Magma soon found his way to Christine’s Critters, a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitator in Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was given a second chance—not as a hunter of the night but as a beloved bird ambassador, teaching people about his species, the importance of conservation, and the power of resilience.
Magma’s Personality? Bigger Than a Great Horned Owl
If you think Magma lets his inability to fly slow him down, think again. This little owl has an attitude the size of a Great Horned Owl!
He may be small, but his fierce stare, fiery plumage, and larger-than-life personality make him an absolute standout. While other owls soar through the night, Magma reigns supreme in his pampered ambassador life, capturing hearts with his unstoppable spirit and undeniable charm.

Fun Owl Facts That Magma Wants You to Know
✅ Owls can’t move their eyes! Instead, they turn their heads up to 270 degrees to see in every direction. Magma has perfected the “I see everything” stare.
✅ Despite their name, Screech Owls don’t actually screech! They make eerie whinnies and soft trills instead.
✅ Screech Owls are camouflage experts. If Magma were in a tree, you might not even see him—his reddish-brown feathers blend perfectly with bark.
✅ They may be tiny, but they are fierce hunters! A wild screech owl can take down prey almost its own size—Magma still keeps that fierce attitude, even if his hunting days are behind him.

Magma’s Message to the World
“I may not fly, but that doesn’t mean I can’t soar in my own way.”
Magma proves that being different doesn’t make you weaker—sometimes, it makes you even more extraordinary. From his striking red feathers to his unstoppable spirit, Magma is living proof that every creature has a purpose.
