Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are brilliant, tiny flying jewels that bring joy to backyards across the country.

Their aerial acrobatics dazzle our eyes, hovering, zipping up and down, sideways and back. 

Hummingbirds are swift aerodynamic flyers that seem to move at lightning speeds between 45 and 60 miles per hour.

Yet even at those speeds and a body mass of 4 to 6 grams, these tiny birds are vulnerable to predators and other dangers.
